The Saturday Morning Market in St. Petersburg

The Saturday Morning Market is a farmers market eponymously held Saturdays in downtown  St. Petersburg, FL. It is held in about a one square block area near Beach Dr. and 1st. Ave. SE,

in the Al Lang Stadium parking lot. They are open from 9-2 Saturdays from October-May and have been open for 14 years. They claim to be one of the best farmers markets in the Southeastern United States and one of the top 20 in the nation. Writing this after being at the market, I believe them.

The crowds that day were tremendous, perhaps Halloween had something to do with it,

all to shop over 100 vendors. Although too numerous to be all inclusive, here was some of what was interesting at the market to me that day.

Worden Farms was there

with a nice selection of organic vegetables.  What really caught my eye was their fall display of sunflowers and squash.

Of all the produce vendors, I thought Little Pond Farm

had the nicest looking selection. So much beautiful color and variety.

There was a vendor, mmsharpening that not only made custom knives but sharpened knives as well,

and had very reasonable prices.

Johnston’s Farm

were selling some interesting looking meats, while Dynasty Guacamole,  who are all over the state, were sampling and selling.

Kurt’s Sausage had a long line

for their very good looking sausages at reasonable prices.

There were also a couple of bread vendors there like German Bread Olga

and really great pizzas, flat breads,

and artisinal breads

from of course, The Bread Artisans.

There was also fresh squeezed orange and sugar cane juice which people seemed willing to queue up for.

There were also a lot of food food vendors.

The Habana Cafe,

Azteca Rojo serving authentic Mexican food,

Schnuck’s Wood Fired Pizza,

and a food stand, Taste of Ethiopia.

I was in the mood for tacos that day and The Taco Lady

 looked like the ticket with her menu.

I ordered the green chili pork,

and this dish was not bad especially with pickled onions and jalapenos.

There were also other vendors like Viktoria Richards Chocolates

that had some beautiful product,

and Pop Craft,

the little girl reflecting in the menu carefully scrutinizing her choices of popsicles.

There was also the Bus Stop Band

that played all the relevant Motown and 70’s-2000’s soul hits for the crowd.

All in all a really great morning out, Highly recommended.
