is a restaurant serving Cuban Cuisine in Naples, FL located in the Promenade Plaza.
They have a simple, but accommodating dining area
that has very nice pictures of life in Cuba on the wall such as this one from Havana Harbor.
The first time I dined there, my dining companion (DC) and I ordered Mariquitas.
These are thinly-sliced deep-fried Plantains served with a Cuban Citrus-Garlic sauce and pepper sauce. I had never had a garlic/citrus flavor combination before and it was excellent.
DC and I were both into salads that day.
I ordered the Churrasco (grilled) Skirt Steak salad with Chimichurri sauce.
It was really, really good and came with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, Capers and a lemon juice/olive oil Vinaigrette seasoned with Oregano. Really good and very filling.
DC got the chicken version of this with avocado.
I came back a second time solo. I wanted to try a couple more things to make this this post less Monochromatic.
It was Raining Cats and Dogs that day. A hot drink was needed. A Cafe Cubano was just what the doctor ordered.
Espresso was melded with lots of Sucrose. It was great. That was followed by a lunch portion of the roast pork.
Pork Shoulder slow cooked with garlic/onion was topped with Mojo Sauce just prior to serving. It was excellent. The pork was served with rice and black beans. The Black Beans were even better. Onions, garlic, green peppers and a heavy dose of Bay Leaves gave these beans a flavor beyond excellent .
Rumba Cuban Cafe was really, really good. I would go back yesterday. There is a reason they are Top of the Pops on Tripadvisor in Naples at the moment. They will not disappoint.
That’s that for another post on Forks.
